Erin Theiller, Kelly Lewis and Haley Thoma each scored in the first half for the Patriots (5-2). Theiller and Corinne Burns got goals in the second half before Dara Battistoni scored for Arlington in the 31st minute.

“This is a very big win,” John Jay coach C.J. Greenwood said. “We’ve been doing the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine lately, but we played our style. We played fast. We pressured the ball. We got the ball to the front runners and the front runners did their job.”

Greenwood said he moved Theiller, a freshman who also had an assist, to forward and Burns, a junior, to center midfield.

Brianna Durland made 11 saves for John Jay, including, as Greenwood said, “three saves that should have been goals.” Sam Campos made eight saves for two-time defending Section 1 Class AA champion Arlington (5-3-1).
